Let’s get crashed
February 8th, 2007
Taken in 2005, actually, by colinj. Song’s Linux system rebooting, although obviously not mid-flight. Why? I dunno, it’s not really “crashed” and it’s not really in a public place. Oh, you mean why do this site? I don’t yet entirely know why, but I find (non-harmful) system crashes in public amusing. Perhaps by posting enough of them I’ll find inner peace with disorderly displays.

I actually remember this from a blog some years ago. The system didn’t actually crash. Some guy had asked the flight personal if he could try running linux on the computers. They gave him the go. This is just the computer booting.

those machines haven’t crashed, planes boot their systems prior to take off. its just a picture of a standard procedure.

Ever thought that they re-boot the computers after every flight?

I’ve seen these before on a boeing 777 I was on going to and coming back from Japan.
Here’s my experience:

Well, booting does not equal a crash.
Actually the text from the original picture is “After we landed in Orlando I talked the flight crew into rebooting the entire system so I could take this picture”
